Not unreal. Book Paris, then unlocked GSM mobile phone with pay as you go card allows you to phone ahead for accommodations. Or just show up. We did it for a month in summer 2010 in France. You have $, they have rooms. Used RS guidebook.

My wife and I went house hunting in Brittany a few years ago and used our laptop with McDonalds free WiFi service to book hotels as we moved around the area. We had no trouble at all. I trust you will rent a car? We now fly into Charles de Gaul and take the TGV directly from the airport to Rennes where you can rent a car. I consider Rennes to be the gateway to Brittany.

Thank you so much for the info. It was helpfull. Given the choice between a canal boat between Rennes and Dinan vs a car and wondering the roads, what would you do? It's our first time. Neal and Gina
