Seniors Traveling in Paris

My husband and I will be in Paris for four days in October and would like to take some tours that pick us up and return us to our hotel. We are in our 70's and this will be the first time we are "on our own" in Paris. We have traveled some however excited as I am, I am a little leary without a guide. Are there any suggestions. Thank you.

Several tour companies offer private guides/tours of Paris by a Citroen 2CV vehicle. You may want to add one of these tours to your itinerary as they will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. Paris Walks also offers private guided walking tours around the city and also a tour of Versailles or Giverny if you are interested in taking a day outside of Paris.

Patty,, the two main big bus tour companies in Paris offer hotel pick up and [INVALID] off with their tours,, it will cost more, but its great for some of those early morning starts that occur on the daytours. Cityrama and ParisVisions,, both reputable and both have decent websites to browse. Note which tours offer hotel pick up. YOu could also just consider using taxis occassionally, I don't find them that much more expensive then they are in any city, including my own,, and that way you can visit some sites at your own pace. Note that if hotel calls you a taxi you will pay for the meter to start at time of call,, but taxi stands are everywhere, see if there is one near you hotel( email and ask them ).

Patty, depending on your budget, you might consider giving * www.arnaud-servignat.com/ * a call or send an E-mail (cut & paste the link inside the asterisks - if the page doesn't load the first time, try it again). He's one of Rick's Guides and provides OUTSTANDING tours (he's the one with Rick in the Paris episode of the PBS show)! What type of tours are you considering? Sites within Paris, Versailles or other??? Happy travels!

Grier, I was hoping you'd spot this post as I knew you'd be able to provide some good advice.

Here I am! Yes, we had a fantastic day with Arnaud Servignat, visiting Malmaison. He has a thorough knowledge of French history and art and knows Paris very well. He can pick you up at your hotel and tailor the day to fit what you want to do. He is fluent in English and several other languages. You will love Arnaud and be very satisfied with your time with him.

Thank you, too, Ken, for the cue. I really don't work for Arnaud, but do highly recommend him.

Grier, having been on a tour with Arnaud for two weeks, I certainly agree that he's an excellent Guide, and I found that his standards didn't change from the beginning to the end of the tour. All of the tour was fantastic!
