Semi-vegetarian in Germany?

Ok, I don't eat beef or pork. I will eat Chicken or Turkey if I have to (but I don't like it) and I will also eat some seafood. So what does one, with those limitations, eat in Bavaria? I also don't eat eggs or drink milk. Nut I do eat cheese. I know, I don't fall into any official category. I was a total vegetarian but I had gastric bypass surgery and my dr. told me I have to eat more protein than I can get from nuts and beans so I went back to chicken and turkey. Thanks for any help on this.

Germany believe it or not, has a lot of vegetarians. So, most restaurants have vegetarian options. Lots of salads with different kinds of mushrooms and greens, along with your turkey or chicken. Not eating cheese or eggs makes it hard, since you then can't have pizza or pasta or vegetables au-gratin. You should be able to find lots of fish on the menu. You may be eating a lot of bread and rice though. Soy and rice milk are readily available and if you go to Asian restaurants, you can get tofu items of course. If you like potatoes, you can always fill up on them. I was a vegetarian here for over 7 years, but I ate eggs and cheese and fish, no chicken, pork or beef. It wasn't that hard here and if you go to the markets, the produce is wonderful and there are lots of health food stores around too if you want the fake meat stuff or spreads for your bread.

Thanks Jo! That is so helpful. I do eat cheese but not real often. Especially good to know that Rice Milk is available. That's what my daughter has to drink since she is allergic to Cow's milk as well as soy (and a ton of other things). Thanks again.

I just re-read my answer and with the soy and rice milk I don't think I was clear on it. You wont find them in restaurants, but in some grocery stores and health food stores. These will be called "Reform Haus" & the grocery stores to look for will be called Tegut and possibly Rewe. If your daughter has allergies, be aware that labeling here is not as specific. For example, starch will just be labeled as starch and won't say wheat starch or corn starch. Or a label might just say natural aromas and flavorings, but won't say what they are! Health food stores would be more specific with their products though.

ditto Jo - I'm only posting to give you more affirmation here. LOTS of people are vegetarians here and people understand health restrictions. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Jo and Juliette. I was a little concerned because all I have been able to find is about all the sausage Germans eat! My husband is looking forward to that part (and the beer!). I really appreciate your information.:)
