My family and I will visit Paris in April. My wife is interested in a Seine River cruise. Does anyone have any thoughts, memories, suggestions, or ideas? Thanks everyone.
I took the Bateaux Parisiens boat tour the first night I was there. It was OK, but not as good as I had thought it might be. Because of being so tired (jet lag) I actually kept falling asleep during the tour. I prefer to actually visit places instead of just driving/cruising by them. On my next visit in a few weeks, though, I'm going with a friend who has never been to Paris so we'll probably go on it again. At least we get a discount with our Eurail passes.
We celebrated my 22 year old daughter's birthday by taking the dinner cruise of the Seine. The sights were quite impressive at dusk.
Even the meal was tasty. It was expensive, but we have not regretted taking the cruise. As they say, once in a lifetime.
I took a night-time one-hour Seine river cruise with Bateaux Mouches. The sites are very nice when they are all lit-up at night, and the lineup to get on was negligible. There is also a hop-on, hop-off boat route, but my understanding is that it does not have any sort of information about the sites, whereas Bateaux Mouches has a tape running during the cruise.
Another very popular one, although I do not have any first-hand experience, is the Paris Canal tour.
Regardless of which one you choose, I highly recommend you consider taking the time to cruise the Seine!
I thoroughly enjoyed taking river cruises on the Seine both times I visited Paris. I found it enjoyable to take it near dusk so you can see everything in light on the way out, but then everything is lit up in the night on the way back. I used two different companies and didn't really notice any major differences between the two. The hop-on, hop-off is more expensive - but the one trip cruises are cheaper.
