I don't think you need advance reservations. You can print out the discount coupons on the website and take them along. They do honor them.
In my view, the best time is just after is becomes dark. The boats have very powerful lights which bring the shoreline alive. Very memorable. Do it with a friend to share the memory with. Enjoy.
