My husband and I will be in Paris mid June. Which of the Seine boat tours do you recommend? And we've heard the Eiffel Tower dinner on the 2nd level is very memorable. Has anyone done is recently? Just how expensive is it? There are some tour companies that do the Seine, then the Eiffel Tower and dinner combination...has anyone had good luck with that?
We did a Paris Vision tour that included the dinner and boat tour. It was fun and a good value to avoid the hastle of a long line and wait time for the dinner in the Eiffel (it was the lower level restaurant, not the upper level super expensive one with the long advance reservation required). The dinner was okay but you don't really go there for the food - it was the experience that made the dinner.
We did a Seine boat cruise, dinner at Eiffel Tower, and bus tour of Paris lights -- a combination. I don't remember the name of the company - it was 5 years ago. There are several companies that have similar evening tours and it is easy sign up at your hotel. The dinner was on a lower level and NOT in the elegant & expensive Jules Verne restaurant. The dinner was in an area that caters to these tours -- tables were long with 12 or so people at each one. I don't think there was much choice -- maybe 2 different entres, and we were all served at the same time. The food wasn't memorable, but we enjoyed it. We were not disappointed and felt we got what we paid for. I think when you take these types of tours, you can protect yourself from disappointment if your expectations aren't too high.
I would definitely check into exactly which restaurant the tour is going to in order to determine whether it is good value for the money. I understand Jules Verne is quite expensive, so would expect the cost of the tour to be as well, if that is were it is taking the group.
What was really neat was being under the Eiffel Tower when the lights were twinkling, but you wouldn't need to be on a tour to experience that. And, you don't need to go on a tour to do the Seine cruise, either. In our case, the tour provided the transportation to & from our hotel & eased the logistics.
We enjoyed: www.vedettesdupontneuf.com/ This is just a boat tour to the Eiffel Tower from Pont Neuf and back. We were staying near Pont Neuf so it worked well for us. Most enjoyable after dark and after dinner.
Carolyn's description of the dinner and restaurant is true but I remember that the cost of the tour was not much more than if we booked the dinner and boat trip ourselves and the convenience made it worth it.
We met some great fellow travelers at the dinner and had a great time (after strategically taking dinner seats near the bottles of wine placed on the table).
Last September, I booked a tour through Viator.com that included dinner at the Eiffel Tower, the Seine cruise, and Moulin Rouge. I would NOT recommend seeing Moulin Rouge. However, the dinner was decent (better than a few of the cafes we tried). Wine was included. We did not have a choice of entrees (unless you requested a vegetarian option in advance). The nice thing about the tour was that we did not have to use the boat cruise ticket that night. We ended up chatting with new friends and wandering around taking pictures. We did do the cruise a couple of nights later.
Viator offers the combination right now for approximately $150 US dollars. It includes dinner, the cruise and transportation back to your hotel (you need to meet at the starting point). The opera menu at the restuarant is 65 euro and a ticket for the boat is 11 euro. The food you get with the tour is a little different than what you would order from the menu, but not too different. If I had to do it again, I would probably just go for a visit and not get dinner. I would repeat the boat tour though! However, as a first experience, the convenience was certainly a plus!
