I know there are segway tours available at Versailles. Does anyone know if you can just rent the segway and tour yourself around?
I doubt it. Segway tours provide instruction before you go on the tour, and most tour operators are probably not willing to just let their equipment go wandering off unsupervised. :)
You could contact Fat Tires Bike Tours in Paris. They do rent out their bikes when not used for a tour,, so may be you could rent a segeway in Paris,, I am sure there would be a hefty hold put on your CC though,, if damaged or stolen you would be responsible for segway.
I do not think there is any way you could segway in Versailles. I did not see them rented on the grounds( but there are bike rentals) , and you could not bring one from Paris,( getting it on the train??) .
anyways, try Fat Tires, they are an American run and owned company, so all staff speak perfect english( well as perfect as any American college grad,, which most staff seem to be, LOL )
Elizabeth,
I've taken the Paris Segway tours, and having seen how these operate I would VERY MUCH DOUBT that the Versailles Segway firm would allow anyone to just take the Segway and "tour yourself around". There's a considerable investment in the Segway's, so I'm sure they want to maintain some control over them.
As Pat mentioned, it's almost certain that they would require a deposit on your credit card to cover damage/loss/theft of the Segway. If the machine is returned in proper order, the charge slip is destroyed. From what I remember, the deposit was about €400.
Cheers!
I read that you can rent golf carts by the hour at Versailles to see the gardens. Perhaps that is a good alternative to the segway?
