Segway Paris tours

Does anyone have any experience with the Segway tours?

I took a Segway tour with City Segway Tours when they opened in Chicago (Paris was open first). It was SO FUN! I can't recommend it highly enough! You have a safety lesson as well as a lesson about how to operate the Segway, and then you have time to practice. Once the tour guide is satisfied that everyone can glide safely, you set off on your tour. Our tour was three hours long all together. Be prepared to be the center of attention, as people will turn and stare or take your picture all along the way. My parents, who are in their 70's, went also and loved it. I would go again in a heartbeat!

Nope, but we used same company " Fat Tire Bike Tours" for two bike tours. They were great!!

Check out FatTires website, just google. American started company and it is staffed with Americans ( and others) so no language issues at all.

I did a Segway tour in the Spanish city of Burgos last summer. Two Spanish guides (one male, one female) took me all over the city, and it was loads of fun.

I'd been wanting to try a Segway tour ever since seeing a group of folks riding around Paris in 2003, and it was great to finally do it. I paid about 20 Euros for an hour-long tour.

The tour firm gave me a couple minutes of tutelage before we embarked, and I learned it pretty quickly. As long as you have decent balance and are OK with using hip motion/leaning to steer, you should be fine (leaning forward is probably the most awkward due to fear of falling, especially since leaning forward increases speed, and to slow down you have to lean back).

My feet bothered me for a bit towards the end, but I'd been doing a lot of walking (I was in the midst of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage), and was wearing sandals. Bottom line, I definitely recommend a Segway tour.

Dean,

I took a Segway tour in Paris on my last trip. It was awesome! Due to the circumstances at the time, I chose a night tour, which I believe is a bit shorter than the day tours.

Here's the process. You'll meet your Guide under one of the "legs" of the Eiffel Tower. He'll be easy to spot, he's the one on the Segway. Then a short walk back to the office where the paperwork is completed, and a short instruction course is given. You will be required to submit a credit card imprint as a deposit, in case you damage the Segway (this is given back at the end of the tour if no incidents occur).

The Segway is capable of several "speed levels" depending on which colour key is used. If the Guide is comfortable that the group is competent, he might allow a slightly faster key. The tour covers all the major sites in the area (Louvre, etc.). The commentary is quite detailed.

The Segway seems to be a novelty, as other tourists were taking photos of our group. Give it a try!

Cheers!

Ken that sounds like the "Fat Tire Bike Tour" company, they do the exact same procedure for their bike tours, but I know they do Segway too. Excellant guides , made if fun !

PS those of you interested book directly with company, using a website like viatour only makes it more expensive as you are paying a middleman. Fat Tire is an American company so you can communicate with them easily in english ! Most of the guides are young Americans just out of college, 25-30 yrs old.
