I have tight vacation to visit Monte Carlo(MC)/Monaco and Greek islands, but also my planning experiences is limited to work out a cost-effective and well-connected rail route from MC to Athens (AH). There must be many skillful traveler here on this web who can provide valuable answers to my question: What is the most cost-effective rail route from MC to AH with as less as possible connections? Thank you in advance.
ron, Travel by rail from Monaco to Athens will NOT be the best solution. Under the same circumstances, I'd travel to the airport in Nice and use a budget flight to Athens. For example, Aegean offers flights from Nice to Athens, with a travel time as short as 6H:35M (including a short layover in Brussels). They currently have flights listed as low as €153. The departure times and other specifics will depend on your date of travel, but they appear to have at least one flight per day. Depending on which of the Greek Islands you're visiting, you may be able to get a direct flight from Athens. Aegean also has flights to Santorini and other islands. Happy travels!
Ken is correct. Rail makes no sense for that length of travel. Look at a map.
Technically there is no rail route. You have to take several trains and a ferry. Short answer: fly.
Thanks a lot, Ken. I have done that:
$271 from Barcelona (my destination before Monaco) to Santorini island(JTR). I will visit Monaco after visiting Paris - my last stop.
