In addition to those opportunities outlined by Michael S it is possible to drive a personal car there too. The company I insure my car with in the UK gave me a list of 10 recommended drives in Europe and included the Nurburgring as one of those. It is important to be sure that your insurance will cover you. I expect that it may be frowned on by rental car companies which usually have a clause against "off-road" and one against "racing or contests of speed". You might be better off borrowing one from a friend or work colleague. Make sure that the tyres have a high speed rating. Bikes and cars are out there at the same time and behave very differently on corners. Be careful. There are frequent accidents. Most important is to carefully read the rules and regulations of the course, and the rules of the road - and obey them.

A very good unofficial site in English is http://nurburgring.org.uk/. I would suspect that any normal hire car company would be very, very unhappy at having any of their vehicles driven around the Nurburgring.

Hi, Cathy... Sometimes you can "accidentally" go around the Nurburgring! I recall back in the early 80's a buddy and I were going to watch a minor motorcycle race that was scheduled for later in the day. We went through a gate where the attendant took our 8DM each and sent us on our way. About 20 meters later we found ourselves on the actual track! (We had obviously gone to the wrong gate. lol). It was kind of weird... Since we were going to camp out that night our bikes' were packed with tons of stuff in the saddlebags and piled up on the pillion seats. It was hot that day so we weren't wearing our leathers. Imagine us going around the track on BMW K100RT's (touring motorcycles) as GSXR's, YZF's, and CBR's were zipping past us like we were standing still! Still... I don't regret being able to say, "I've raced on the Nurburgring!". :-) Bob & Jerry's EuroPage - http://home.comcast.net/~bepineurope

I don't know about a tour, but my husband, Trout, drove the Nurburgring in September, 2009. It was a bucket list item for him. He rented a prepared car (you cannot take a normal car rental on the track) for the experience. This is the website for the car rental agency: http://rentracecar.com/index-gb.htm. The drivers, i.e. car renters, were taken on a track tour at speed by the owner, Theo. He also took the hangers-on, like me, separately. Things may have changed in the past 2 years, but I'm sure it's just as much fun. Here's the link to my blog entry for that experience: http://travelswithtrout.blogspot.com/2009/11/nurburgring-ring-and-cars.html. Just remember that the Nordschliefe track is not open all day all the time for casual people to drive. Feel free to contact me privately and I will give you our home phone number so you can call and talk to my husband about it if you want. BTW, we used to live pretty close to you and my husband races in the PNW every year.
