Nabburg, right off the Prague-Nuremberg freeway (or Prague-Regensburg-Munich freeway) is a beautiful, medieval walled town with a castle-like old town and plenty of very good and affordable hotels, B2Bs. Pictures at www.vg-nabburg.de/media/custom/1772_531_1.PDF?1266512402 and www.nabburg.de.I had a large order Rumpsteak from local cattle with fresh locally grown aspargus and two "Dotsch" (a local version of hash browns) for €14.90 at the Gasthof zum Stern (the blue house on the upper market square).
Thanks Andreas. Nice town website. I have been looking for some less visited places for next year. This might be a good possibility.
Andreas, I'll be traveling from Rothenburg to Lutherstadt-Wittenburg. Will this be on the way?
OK, let me just add a few things: While Nabburg and the entire area is beautiful I wouldn't go out of my way just to see it. But for those who pass it anyway it's quite worthwhile! It's also great for day trips to Regensburg (view that medieval town on Google maps!!), Cham, the Bayerischer Wald national park which is the oldest in Germany and Mt. Arber on the Bavarian/Bohemian (Czech) border.
It's not en route from Prague to Wittenberg. On that route are Dresden and a town that's another secret or hidden gem, Radebeul! Here's an English language 22 pages brochure on Radebeul: http://www.radebeul.de/radebeulmedia/Dokumentenpool/Brosch%C3%BCren_Touristinformation-p-2322/Informationsbrosch%C3%BCre_Radebeul__englisch_.pdf Pay special attention to page 19 of that pdf file!
Looks like a great place. Now I have to file it in my brain for the next time I'm in the area.
Thanks.
