Do you have a suggestion for a resonable hotel in the Schwangau Baveria area or should I look for something in Fussen? I like being in the rural but need to get around too - I was thinking of the Alpenhotel Meier there but don't know if it has easy accesa to the rails or maybe the bus? Can anyone help me with that area? thanks- Nova

We LOVE Schwangau! It's a fantastic place to stay when visiting the castles. Also Castle Linderhof is convenient as a day trip from here as is the Ettal Monastary.
The last time we were in Schwangau we stayed at the Hotel Helmerhof...the time before that was at the Ruebezahl. Both were great places but the Helmerhof was about 1/2 the price. Have a look at the Schwangau hotels rated in Tripadvisor reviews:
