Schwabisch Hall, Germany.....need advise on touring the area and beyond..

We will be positioned in Schwabisch Hall in Bavaria for two weeks in March. I would like to take trips in neighboring countries on the three weekends. And, while my husband is working during the week, I hope to visit nearby villages. Any advise from someone familiar with the region?

Oops. Schwaebish Hall is in Baden-Wuerttembuerg, not Bayern (Bavaria). Nearby is Stuttgart. Also Tuebingen, Hechingen, Ulm, Rothenburg, and Heidelberg. Muenchen is nearby and there is more there than you can see in a weekend. That is a rich area for sightseeing. You don't have to go far.

You might want to also check out Nurnberg. Strasbourg, France is not far and is an interesting city if you want to branch out from Germany. The countryside is beautiful even in March. The local seasonal alcoholic apple drink may still be available in March. In comes in crocks and is quite tasty, but strong! Pam

Thanks for all the advise, and also thanks for the correction on my region of Germany! Oops!

Yes, we were thinking of a border crossing into France and even maybe to Switzerland or Austria.

I'm excited as I know that this region has many interesting sights. Should I rent a car or depend on train transportation during the week when I will be exploring on my own?

"If you want to investigate the Black Forest, then a car would be better"

Wow, I guess I was too dumb to realize that and inverstigated it (Calw, Bad Wildbad, Bad Herrenalb, Fruedenstadt, Alpirsbach, others) by public transportation anyway, and found lots to see.

Of course, if you stay IN the Black Forest you get a KONUS pass, which gives you all of the transportation for free.
