Schloss Hellbrunn and the Untersberg Cable Car

I understand that this castle is on the outskirts of Salzburg. Am I right? We will have a car - can you drive to it? How long would it take to get there? How much time to see the trick fountains in action and to see the inside? We are staying at a pension on Moosstrasse....in Salzburg Also is the Untersberg Cable Car in close proximity to the Schloss Hellbrunn and worth doing for a view ? thanx much,
carole

The cable car was fun. There was a small cafe on top with coffee and pastries...maybe a larger menu, but it was early and only coffee is on my radar. Visibility was great on that day and the views were too. Linger a while and descend when you choose. We saw Hellbrunn on the way back and had plenty of time. We used the Salzburg Card or Pass which included public transportation. The card or pass was a great value; the cable car alone practically paid for it. Also good for the boat ride on the river, a brewery, and many, many other sites. Enjoy Salzburg.

We had the Salzburg card as well and found it a great value (we were there 2 full days). We took the bus out to Hellbrunn...I want to say it was about 45-60min guided tour...but we just did the tour and didn't spend much more time there. There is also a zoo nearby, if you like that kind of thing (we enjoyed it) - I believe it was one bus stop past Hellbrunn, but this was 2010, so it may have been a few, but certainly not to long a drive in a car. Watch the tricky tour guide at Hellbrunn - if you have expensive camera gear you don't want wet, make sure you keep it covered (they won't soak you, but you will get sprinkled!)

We also had a car (and GPS) and it was not hard to drive to Hellbrunn. You do pay for parking. The fountains are fun and you will get wet. They moved the gazebo you see in the Sound of Music to the property. Have fun. Been there 3 times and always enjoyed it.
