They are happy to take credit cards. The machine they use gobbles the card for chip and pin but they must have a way to swipe old fashioned 20th century type credit cards like those from US holdouts.

yes, I absolutely recall paying w/ my cc. In general m most major tourist attractions like that take cards. Schilthorn is AWESOME, btw! As much as I loved the Jungfraujoch, Schithorn, for me, was 1 of the main highlights of my trip to the Bernese Oberland. On a clear, sunny day, the mountain views from up to are head-spinning and jaw-dropping! That entire region is just spectacular--my favorite in all of Europe. Enjoy and have a great day there!

It has been a few years since we were there so I can't speak to their acceptance of magnetic stripe cards. My guess is that they do but you can go to schilthorn.ch and contact them to find out for sure. The web site has all the prices for the cable car. (If you need to use cash, there are ample ATMs, this is a tourist area and the want you to be able to spend money.) The only other expense would be if you ate there or bought souvenirs. The last time we were there we had a nice lunch on the revolving restaurant and the price really wasn't much more than if we had eaten down in the valley but the view was fantastic. My only caveats are, if possible, do it on a week day when the crowds are not as big and do it on a clear day. If the crowds are big, I would stand back and be first in line to get on the next cable car to make sure I was by a window preferably on the Lauterbrunnen side. The first couple minutes after you leave the Schteckleberg base station are simply breath taking. Also the nice thing is you can break the trip and stop in Murren on the way up or down as we did and then determine that next time you are going to spend a night in Murren on the valley edge.
