We will be spending a few days in Nerja in March. Does anyone have suggestions for a day trip from this location? We won't have a car and are already planning another night in Granada later in the trip.
A couple of places you could consider - Malaga and Frigiliana. Frigiliana is quite close to Nerja - about 7kms so either a taxi or bus to get there. I don't personally know about the buses. Malaga is about 1.5 hours away by a frequent and cheap bus service. There is a lot to see in Malaga and the old town is very nice. Also - Burriana is next to Nerja but with a very different feel about it.
Thanks Liz. We will be traveling thru Malaga on our way to Granada from Nerja. Do you think there is enough time to stop to see some sites in Malaga and still make it to Granada by early evening? Also, do you have any experience with the Jeep tours out of Nerja?
Hi, i would also suggest a trip to Frigiliana , a lovely white village slightly inland from Nerja.it is very easy to take the local bus there. Many places for lunch would include "Las chinas"{although closed on Tuesday}. I must also agree with Liz to have some time in Malaga,It is a great city, lots of culture and some amazing tapas bars and restaurants
Enjoy Andalucia.
You would not be able to see very much of Malaga if you are en route to Granada. Malaga is a sizeable city. Sorry - have no experience with the Jeep tours. Happy travelling.
We totally loved Malaga. It was one of our favorite places in Spain. Ironically, we visited Nerja FROM Malaga on a public bus. Stopped every where and took about an hour plus. We did that in the morning - then zipped back to Malaga from Nerja the same way. In Malaga, we strolled beautifully paved shopping district - the Margues Larios - which we liked better then the Ramblas - more low key. Visited the Picasso Museum where we were amazed to find a temporary and wonder exhibition on Giacometti (on loan from Paris) - whom we love. Finally, we strolled the Alcazaba paths. I wouldn't bother with the car. The bus is just fine - and no parking hassles.
And - by the way - if you are old enough - you can get in free or very cheaply to places in Spain. The Picasso Museum - which was lovely - was four euros. The bus was two tickets for 1.20 euros.
Thanks.
It sounds like we might have to add a day for Malaga into our plans.
Do you like to hike? Nerja and nearby Frigilana are boarded by the Beautiful Sierra de Almijara National Park. There's some great hiking in the area and the weather in March should be sunny and pleasant. Rick Steves has suggestions, and the www.nerjatoday.com and www.hikingwalkingspain.com web sites would also be helpful. You don't need a car. There's frequent busses to/from Malaga, Frigilana (great little village) and Granada (book reservation for Alhambra ahead of time, and get there early!). Do a Tapas evening going from place to place sampling local dishes! Nerja is a great place!
