San Sebastian, Spain Accommodations

Anyone know of a decent place to stay in or around San Sebastian for a family of 5 (3 adults) on a tight budget?

We stayed at Pension Iturriza and liked it very much. Initially we tried to get a reservation at the places mentioned in the RS Spain book but they were all full on our dates, and one of them recommended Iturriza....google it to see if the rates are in your range, San Seb is more expensive during the summer months. Bilbao is an hour by bus from SS and was less expensive since its not a seaside resort town. Depending on how you plan to spend your time in the region you might do well to stay some of the nights in Bilbao, which also has an old city and a variety of pintxos bars.

We stayed at Pension Bellas Artes: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187457-d620061-Reviews-Pension_Bellas_Artes-San_Sebastian_Donostia_Guipuzcoa_Province_Basque_Country.html The upside: owners are great, the room was beautiful. The downside: most expensive place we stayed during a month in Spain (117 euro), they charged us high season rate because it was Spring Break for a lot of French, kind of a long walk to the beach, and (the biggest downer) the street noise was the worst of our trip (there must be a nightclub nearby) we hardly slept at all. I'd stay here again but try to avoid a weekend night or take a quieter room off the street.

I would highly recommend Pension Garate in San Sebastian. We stayed there one night, after moving from the much busier and noisy old town, and it was one of the best places we stayed in all of Spain. We were there about two weeks ago and I think it was about 65 euros per night. Look it up on booking.com. It is close to the beach (no view) and a 10 min walk to old town.
