How far is it from Salzburg to Innsbruck? Could this be a day trip? Is train or car travel more efficient? Thanks, Dorsey
Hi Dorsey, The drive is about 2 hours each way.
The RailJet makes the trip non-stop in 1h49m for €37,80 per person, each way. By regional train, it take over 4 hours but you can do it with a €28 Einfach Raus ticket for both of you. I've been in Innsbruck. I didn't see enough there to justify a four hour round trip.
Hi again, Lee stated: "I've been in Innsbruck. I didn't see enough there to justify a four hour round trip." I have to say the same thing. Paul
I agree with Lee. I personally would not leave the Salzburg area to go to Innsbruck. There's so much to see and do in Salzburg and the area.
Ditto what the others said, nothing that exciting in Innsbruck.
I agree with the others. If you are enroute to see Bavaria then the trip is justified, otherwise I would recommend a lovely bike ride around salzburg or the corny but informational Sound of Music tour which takes you out into the lovely countryside area of Salzburg.
Agree w/ the posts above. I spent 2 nights in Innsbruck a few yrs back, mainly because I happened to have a long time for that trip and was making my way west (I began in Vienna), so was able to get a lot of places in. But if somewhat pressed for time, prob would not go out of my way. The city center, with it's cobblestone streets and famous "Golden Roof" is pretty and pleasent, but the folks above are correct (IMHO); it's not nearly as pretty or memorable as Salzburg and not as much to see & do. It worked for me to actually get in some "down-time" as the rest of my trip was so action-packed. IF you do go, 1 tip; take the street car a little outside of the city center to the site of the '76 Winter Olympics park. The ski jump is still in place, as are the Olympic rings. Standing at the rings, you get an awesome view of the city (which was particularly pretty when I was there in December around xmas time; was a gorgeous, sunny day and mountains towering over the city were covered in snow; beautiful!)
Oh come on guys. Are telling me that that tiny yellow(ish) roof thing isn't worth a long journey. Of course it is. Why else would they push it so hard? BTW ... its not worth it, IMVHO. Seefeld up the hill is, though... Stay at the Eden - you'll love their dinners. Half board is the way to go there. Never liked the town of Innsbruck though....
