I am planning a trip to these three cities in late July for myself and two grown kids,I can afford seven days maybe 10 if the Euro to dollar exchange rate does not get worse. Question is seven days pushing it? Also is planning to move between the three by rental car a good idea? Thanx Bruce
I think you could do it in 7 days, but 10 would be better. You might want to check Rick's info on railpasses. If you are not planning stops between the 3 towns, it might be cheaper and more relaxing to use trains.
Hi Bruce,
We agree entirely with Kent (above). There's plenty to keep you busy in Hallstatt, but you might keep in mind that Bad Ischl is a short train ride from Hallstatt. At Bad Ischl is a famous café called Zauner (wonderful pastries) plus the Kaiser's (Kaiser Villa) hunting lodge. It and the village of Bad Ischl are gems.
You may already be aware that a motor launch meets every train which stops at Hallstatt station (across the lake). It picks up and delivers to/from the dock by the Evangelical church (pointy steeple by the lake.)
Gute Reise! ... P
