We used bikes lent to us from our B&B and biked to many of the Sound of Music sites. They included Hellbrunn Palace where the "I am 16" gazebo resides, Frohnburg Castle (Used as the front of the VonTrapp home), Hellbrunn Alley (which Maria danced down singing "I have Confidence"), Leopoldskron Castle (used as the back of the Von Trapp house) In addition, there are some sights right in the heart of Salzburg that you can walk to (Fountains, bridges, and Mirabell Palace and Gardens where you can walk through singing "doe a deer" The only sights the tour visits that require a car is the church in Mondsee used in the wedding and St Gilgan which appears at the opening. I enjoyed our bike tour more than the official bus tour. The bus tour didn't let us get out at many of the sights. Vehicles cannot get near Hellbrunn alley and Frohnburg Palace. I used a small book I purchased in Salzburg-"Your Sound of Music Keepsake" that is sold in many stores. With a car, you can visit Mondsee and St Gilgan.
