Salzburg overnight

Any recommendations on a place to stay overnight in Salzburg? We'll be using the train, so I need somewhere convenient to the train station and seeing the Salzburg attractions.

you can use trip adviser to look up both old town and new town. shops in old town shut down in the evenings so i think it's ok to pay less to stay in the new town, it's only a few min walk across river to the old town. regardless, you need to ride the bus from train station.

We were there last October. The train station was under construction just like just about every other one in Europe. Follow the crowd out of the station. You will be in a taxi and bus square. Bear to the right, to the sidewalk. About two block down, straight ahead you will see a hotel sign sticking out from a building. That is the Der Salzburger Hof hotel. We stayed there three nights. It is family owned, well run, with a good restaurant. If the weather is good and you have a day you can walk over the river, on a bridge, to the old town and all the touristy things. The price was reasonable, 78Euros a night with breakfast. The weather turned rotten while we were there so we didn't see the old town, but we had a fantastic view of the mountains with their new snow coats. Between the hotel and the train depot there is a shopping center with a good supermarket in case you need food and drink.

Salzburg is compact and very walkable. I would stay in the center. Train station is not in the center. Great place to stay is Weiss Taube.

We stayed at Weiss Taube. Loved Salzburg and would stay in old town not near the train station.
