Rick mentions musical performances in Salzburg as a must-do. I've looked at some of his recommendations, as well as a few online. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the choices. We'd like to do one dinner/performance, but don't want to get cheated by the price if the food is bad ( which I often read is a problem ). DOes anyone have recommendations or good experiences they want to share?

If you are referring to the Mozart Dinner at Stiftskeller the food is quite good. It was not a fancy meal but good and we enjoyed the experience. The table accomodated eight people and it was a really interesting dining experience--a great way to share travel stories with others. The restaurant is very old and it is worth it just to see the interior. Dining room has lots of crystal chandeliers and nice atmosphere.
