Salzburg & Munich in November?

My wife and I are headed over to Austria the first week of November for 10 days. First three nights are in Vienna, but not sure what to do after that. Seems like Hallstatt is "closed" for the winter by then as well as Eagle's Nest. Would it be better to head to Munich and save the Salzburg area for another time of the year? Thanks to all!

Hi Andrew,

I'd stay in Salzburg for 3 nights. One of our favorite old towns. I can't even imagine Salzburg being "quiet" or "closed" any time of the year.

Even though the Eagle's Nest is closed, in the Berchtesgaden area (30 min from Salzburg), the boat trips on the Konigssee run all year and Berchtesgaden is easily worth an afternoon.

Hallstatt... we went in late October '06 and it was VERY quiet. If you really want to see it and it was a nice day, I'd go anyway. The scenery never closes.

Andrew/James,

We've been twice to the Konigssee in late Oct/early Nov and had great weather. Every year is different, which is why I put the link to the Konigssee website.

Terry,
We've traveled to Bavaria/Austria and the Italian Dolomites many times from early to late Oct. No need to worry about businesses being open at all.
