Leaving tomorrow for our trip. We made a last minute decision to go to Salzburg for one day and night before heading to Munich. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a hostel or small budget hotel for myself and girlfriend. We don't really know much about Salzburg except that we've heard its a load of fun and extremely beautiful.

2 years ago when we were there we stayed at the Hotel Goldene Krone (in Rick's book - which you should have if you're going), across the river from the old town in a nice neighborhood, about 10 minute walk from the old center. Price was about 88 Euro for a double with bath (september 2006). Worked out fine for us, would stay there again. Good luck!
When I went to Salzburg a few years ago, I stayed across the Salzach river in Frielassing (Germany)because I didn't want to pay the higher prices in Salzburg. It was a 7 min, €2,- trip into Salzburg Hbf.

There are lots of inexpensive B&B's on Moostrasse. Bus transportation is very efficient and stops often on Moostrasse. Great place to stay.
We stayed at this hostel. It was immaculate, large breakfast and had 2 private bath rooms. I believe it is a business college during the school year and the dorm is used as a hostel during the summer. We were VERY impressed.
We had the double bed room
oops. Double bed rooms are E18,68 and a larger double for E23,05 per person per night. This includes a very large and nice breakfast.

I don't know if this falls within your budget. It was somewhere around 100 Euro if I remember correctly. But there was also a discount with your Rick Steve's book...
