Salzburg -Liechtenstein

What is the quickest and best way to drive from Salzburg to Liechtenstein? Is there a good scenic route between the two places? Thank you. Dorsey

Do you have to visit relatives or something? Because if you're just going to "cross that little country off the list", trust me, it ain't worth it. We made that mistake last summer and it was a wasted day in Europe. There is absolutely nothing there more interesting than you could find by picking any random town on the map. If you are determined to go, just use Google maps for a route. Stay on the motorways for speed or closer to the mountains for scenery. We drove from Füssen and it took 2+ hours each way. Salzburg should be at least 90 minutes farther each way. Doing almost anything else would be more enjoyable.

The direct Autobahn route through Germany then turning southwest in the direction of Innsbruck mostly runs through or near the Alps, so you probably couldn't do better for scenery any other way. I don't find myself agreeing with Randy very often, but I most certainly do in this case. I visited there on a rainy day-trip from Lech am Arlberg in Austria. The natural scenery was probably nice (couldn't get a great view because of the clouds and rain), but I didn't see anything that really justified the 40 minute drive. I see even less reason to drive all the way from Salzburg.

Hi Dorsey, Just curious why you're looking to go to Liechtenstein? I'm not saying there's not beautiful scenery there, but the alpine scenery is as good, if not better, around Salzburg (Berchtesgaden area) and Innsbruck. In Liechtenstein itself, we found nothing that would make us want to go out of our way for to return. Paul

Tom; Better be careful. If James and Jo see you agreeing with me on anything you're at risk of being kicked out of the club.

Well, I loved our little stop in Liechtenstein. It was many years ago, first trip to Europe and I drove way up some little winding road, found a place to pull off and sat on a bench with a little picnic and looked over the countryside below, complete with the church steeple and the bicyclists riding down the steep and winding road faster than I would drive it. It was on our way to Salzburg and I do love that city as well, but I wouldn't give up that memory for anything.

I am with Terry Kathryn in that I enjoyed our short few hours in Liechtenstein. We hiked above the town of Vaduz and had a nice view from above and did a little shopping. We did not drive too far out of route from our planned destination to see Liechtenstein so it was a fairly convenient stop for us. I have no plans on going back but I also have no regrets at all for having visited for those few hours.

Hi again, Just thought I'd add to my above post. Our very first day/night in Europe was spent in Liechtenstein. We flew into Zurich and drove to and stayed in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein at the Hotel Martha Buehler which had wonderful views of the Alps. While we have very fond memories of our stay, after traveling extensively in Austria, Bavaria, etc., I would not go out of my way to visit again. If I was passing by and it was convenient, maybe. I certainly wouldn't drive from Salzburg to see it. Paul
