Salzburg for 3 days in mid-Feb? Or somewhere else?

My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary in mid Feb (3 years). We can only go somewhere for 4 days including travel time from Wiesbaden, Germany. Because of the short time we thought about somewhere within 5-6 hours by train. I was thinking about Salzburg. Has anyone been there in Feb? What is it like? Lots of snow? Just rain? It's off season but I'm hoping there is still a lot to do. If there is snow I would love to do a horse sleigh ride but I'm thinking it would be too late for that.

Or I'm open to other ideas for locations - I know this leaves it wide open but if you have a favorite spot... We've been in Germany for 6 months and have only been to Paris and Ramsau in Bavaria so maybe deciding where to go is really the hard part. But since it's an anniversary, someplace romantic would be nice.

Thank you.

Salzburg is beautiful in the snow, and there might be some. But it's just as likely that there won't be. Salzburg sits on a plateau surrounded by mountains, so it doesn't get a lot of extreme weather. It's definitely worth a visit -- lots to do even in the off-season.

panoramablick.com is a webcam website that shows many locations in Salzburg as well as other European places. You can see the city in real time as well as 4 different times of day by clicking on "1T". Or you can also see 9 days "9T". Also there is a video option. I enjoy checking it out from time to time to see what's going on. At Christmas time you can see Christmas trees, markets and also snow. Hope you enjoy the website.

I've been in January. It was cold and snowy and beautiful! I've also been in the early summer. You will have a wonderful time no matter what the time of year. There are concerts all year long, and you can take the Sound of Music tour which is still great in the winter.
