Salzburg Festival

This year will be it's 90th anniversary. I'd like to attend one of it's 'affordable' concerts, i.e. 3 piece string recital. However, we haven't decided on the direction of our 10 Alps trip - Salzburg could be at the beginning or end of our trip. How probable will it be to get 'same day' tickets? Would there be any discounts as seen in NYC with same day Broadway tickets. Thanks

As far as I know, they don't offer discount "same day" tickets. We were there during the festival a few years ago, and as a classical musician, I really wanted to go and see a concert. But by the time we had our plans in concrete and knew when we would be in Salzburg, the only tickets left were 75 euros and up. When we were first looking, I was wanting to get some of the cheapo 10 euro seats, since we would have our 3-year-old with us. I figured he'd probably only make it to intermission, but for 30 euros, I could live with that. But not for 225 euros.

They do have some concerts during the day that I don't believe are part of the official festival that are more reasonable and informal. Those would be easy to get tickets for the same day.

Thanks Steve - BTW, I was referring to the Salzburg Festival's 90th Anniversary . . . not my own. LOL
