As part of a May 2014 trip, I plan to spend either 3 or 4 nights in Salzburg. My wife and I will arrive from either Prague or Vienna (still up in the air) before heading to Munich. We both love the outdoors and it appears Salzburg is filled with nature focused day trips. I'd love to visit the Salzkammergut region (Hallstatt), take a trip on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, and visit Werfen with its castle and nearby Eisriesenwent. We're not renting a vehicle but numerous tour operators in Salzburg should make the day trips easy enough. Are any of these trips combinable into one long day? My wife and I are both in our late twenties so energy shouldn't be a problem. If all three day trips have to be undertaken on different days is it worth staying in Salzburg 4 nights to achieve all three? If not, which of three would someone who's experienced them all cut?
