salzburg austria house rentals

We are a group of 8 adults travelling to Austria late September. Thinking of renting a house in/near Salzburg. Most of the houses I see are in the mountains surrounding Salzburg. Is there enough to do there for 5 days? We do like hiking, cycling but not for 5 straight days. Should we just stay in Salzburg? I appreciate any comments and suggestions.
