Salon Tipping

OK. So I'm not going to Paris to live the high life, but I may pop into a salon for a pedicure while there, if for nothing more than for a massage for my healing broken foot. My question is: How much do I tip a manicurist/salon person, etc. in Paris?
Thanks!

Geez, not many replies to this post. I guess there aren't many glamazons on the Helpline, but I would guess it's proper to tip any type of salon professional.

Yeah, I know. It makes me feel like a prima donna!

Any idea how much would be appropriate? I read somewhere that one would tip a hair stylist 2E and a hair washer 1E. Do you think 2E might be ok for a manicurist?

Thanks!

OMG...I am so glad that someone is actually going to do something "normal" while they are on vacation. I have actually had my hair cut and colored while in Europe! The are so up to date on the new hairstyles! I would suggest tipping the same that you would here in the USA! Common..let's no be "cheap"...Americans have a bad enough reputation. Take the time to relax and enjoy this "diva" treatment!! Lucky you AMY!! I can say that the manicurist is NOT in the RS book! Ha,ha....I have had several people get upset with me regarding our travel hero!

I think this is a great question and I'd like to know too. I'm so not a prima donna but a pedicure is just normal "maintenance" to me, especially on a trip where I wear sandals everyday and walk about 15 miles a day. We are in Sorrento, Italy right now and we'll be traveling for 6 wks. I'll definitely need a pedicure by the time we get to Paris! I'll tip what I would back home...good advice, thanks!

Amy, you must let us know where you go for your pedicure and how it went. I am sure many of us will want ot go!! We probably better tell them that their business will really pick up once the word is out on the RS site. Enjoy your time in Paris. I am going to Costa Del Sol in Spain for two weeks. I will check out the places for pedicures..and will let everyone know my experience.

Jackie and all,

I'll definitely let you know if I find a gem of a mani/pedi place, and I'll drop the RS connection at the salon and tell them about how much we all communicate (and how, low and behold, there are smart travelers who are beautiful Americans, not ugly Americans) :). I'll also be in Italy for 2 weeks after my jaunt in Paris for a week. I'll report back on anything I find there. I leave on Saturday and I return at the very end of July. So stay tuned...
Why is it that I feel naughty discussing this topic on the RS Helpline ;D ?

Hey Ladies,

I am will be off to Europe soon. I am so used to getting a pedicure monthly. So this is a great question. I will check back and see if anyone has posted a great place to. Thanks and happy traveling!

Amy if you find a place for a mani/ pedi can you post?? I was there for 2 weeks (last week I came back) and I could not find a mani/pedi place in Paris. Well, to be honest I didn't go looking for one, but told hubby if we came across one I'd get a pedi since my feet were killing me.

I would tip the same as in the states... round to the nearest few bucks.

Sure, Michelle and all semi-divas on this thread. I am kind of going the same route as you. I'm not sure that I'm going to go seek a salon out, but if I happen to come across a place, I'm in, and I'll post when I return. I was thinking that maybe the larger and fancier department stores may have a salon. Also, I've heard there is a huge and fancy Sephora in Paris. Perhaps they offer that service??? You may actually know the answer to that because you've been to Paris a bunch, and I'm sure you've been to the places of which I am speaking. I tried to search online, but with no luck:(.

Just another thought on the pedicure in Paris. I am taveling with my 21 & 14 year old daughters, plus my husband. I thought I'd treat them to a pedicure along with myself in Paris just becuase! They love to come along and get pedicures when Mom pays! We leave on the 21st July for 3 weeks but won't hit Paris until early August. Can't wait to hear if you're successful in finding a good place. We're staying in the Latin Quarter and I thought that maybe since it's close to university there would be some nail salons. My poor husband just goes on about his business and meets back up when we're finished being "girls" and tells us how great we look! LOL Happy travels Amy!

Linda we stayed near Notre Dame and found plenty of clothing stores but zip on salons.

Amy: I found a bunch of sephora stores but they were like ours here. Make up and make up supplies.

Come to think if it... I found a salon near the Musee Pompidou, but it looked more like a hair salon. No mention of mani/pedi.

I am sure you can find a day spa type place in a high end hotel. That would be a treat to get a "french" manicure in France! Oui?

Linda, I, too, am staying in the Latin Quarter. On one of the 2 links I posted, there is actually a place either on Blvd. St-Germain-des-Pres, or just in St-Germain-des-Pres. I am going to check out that one first because it's close. I'll definitely let you know, but you'll have to check this thread online while in Europe as I don't return until July 29th. If I'm able to past while I'm in Europe, I will.

Michelle,

Yes, a French manicure in Paris would be very apropos! I was also on your wavelength about upscale hotels. I'll check them out and report back for all of those interested. I leave in 2 days! Yay!!!
