Salamanca or Zaragoza?

I'm going to be traveling with my husband from Madrid to Spain next spring. I'm trying to decide between taking a trip eat to Salamanca for a few days, or stopping in Zaragoza on the way to Barcelona. I feel like Zaragoza will be more convenient since we're heading west anyways, but Salamanca might be more interesting. Any insights into which city is a better choice?

Salamanca is an RS spot but not really special. There are a half dozen places just as good in the rest of non-Andalusian Spain. Zaragoza is damn near world-class, but it's out of the way and hardly anybody goes there who's knowledge only comes from the blue and yellow books.

If you are in Madrid and then headed to Barcelona ... make sure you see Toledo! If you are thinking of Salamanca, you might want to also include Segovia. I agree that Salamanca as the only other choice is probably not going to charm you. You could also go to Cuenca which is East (also South) but somewhat en route to Barcelona .. again, don't miss Toledo.
