Salamanca from Madrid

I will be in Madrid for a week in late may and am looking into spending 2 nights in Salamanca. Will also likely do a day trip to Segovia or Toledo from Madrid. Is it worth it to stop in Avila on the way to or from Salamanca for a quick tour before continuing on to Salamanca? Can you store luggage at the Avila train station? I see it is possible to get into Avila at 10 AM and leave at 3PM for Salamanca.

The train from Madrid (Charmartin station) does stop at Avila. I went to Salamanca last year, but did not exit at Avila. I have seen it and its wall from a distance. I think that you would have a limited amount of time, remember that the shops, etc. are most likely closed during your time period. I think the time would be better spent in Salamanca to be honest. There are two stops in Salamanca, and depending on your hotel, either would be suitable. The train track ends in Salamanca.

Thanks, H J. Any comments on hotels in Salamanca? Is there enough to do for a weekend in Salamanca? Seems very charming but a bit low key, which will probably be a good thing.
