I read that some gradual restoration is being done in Sainte Chapelle. I would like to go to a concert there next week if things are not too disrupted. Has anyone been recently?
We were there for a concert 6/22/10. The chairs all faced the front, where the musicians were, and pretty much all of that front area, from floor to ceiling, was covered up. We enjoyed the concert, but it did detract from the atmosphere and experience.
Where do you buy tickets to a concert there?
Get them at the door.
In the past, I bought them at the door. I think you can buy them in advance through ticket agencies with some fees added. You get to look at the stained glass at your leisure while listening to pleasant music without the crowds. I think the concerts are in the 8:00 to 10:00 time frame, so its best in summer with daylight.
We bought our tickets at ticket window outside the day before the concert. This was in September 2009. I'm not positive, but I think you have to wait in the security line to get to the ticket window, and it was a pretty long line. But we wanted to see the chapel before the concert. I'm glad we did because you don't get to see the lower level at the concert.
The front of the chapel was covered up when we were there also. I have no doubt the concert would have been even more fabulous with all the windows uncovered, but we absolutely loved it and were very happy we went. It was one of my favorite things we did, and I am not particularly into music.
We were at St Chapelle a few weeks ago. From what I recall, the restoration is of the the stained glass on the second floor. This is not as big as one would expect but very cozy. The stained glass is based on the entire Bible and one side was completed with the other side stil being worked on. There was plenty of floor space to move around or sit down and study the guides on the large tablets and enjoy the stained glass. I saw more equipment outside than inside.
Only issue I had was that it is next to an office building and you can pass by it and not notice it if you are on the other side of the street since it is not that large if you were expecting a massive building.
