A couple of questions: Going to Barcelona in October. Want to see Sagrada Familia. I can buy tickets in advance at the Sagrada familia website. The trip to the towers contains the warning about people with vertigo, heart issues... not that that is totally me. I am 65, relatively good shape. Did have a little heart incident about 6 years ago.....and heights bother me. Would I be wise to not do the towers? I think I know the answer. Just looking for confirmation. Question 2...I see other places where they sell tickets at a higher cost. Same ticket, same facility, correct?
thanks for any insight.
Go for it!!! I have new knees (last year) and will see it all...Even joined the Sagrada Friends / Family (Check their website for details) Not that expensive and from a prior visit some years ago, it will be worth it. As for purchasing the tickets...do it direct from the Sagrada website.
Terry, we were just there in January and did the towers, they take you up in elevators, but you are on your own on the way back down and the spire with the stairs is very narrow and steep, if you have any fear of heights or are claustrophobic, I would skip the towers.
I was there last month. We did go up in the Nativity Tower. Elevator up, but small, windy staircase down. If you don't like heights I think I would skip. You can go up in the Passion Tower - I believe that has an elevator up AND down. Buy your tickets on the SF site, or some ATM's sell them as well (La Caixa). We bought tickets the same day - you should be fine in October. The line for those without an advance ticket purchase was around the block. The audioguide was good - worth the purchase. Have fun. It's amazingly beautiful!!
Terry, I was there recently and you could try the towers if you think you can handle the height. The Passion Tower would probably be the better choice, as you'll be able to take the air-conditioned Elevator in both directions. It's a bit "cramped" up there but you'll probably feel safe as you'll be surrounded by a lot of stone, with windows to view the outside. When you arrive at the top, you could always have a look from the Elevator foyer and if you find it's a problem, just stay there and take the next Elevator back down. However, you will have paid for the trip so the cost will be wasted. Regarding the tickets, there are probably many vendors selling them and of course varying mark-ups. I bought online from the "official" site, which I believe uses Ticketmaster to handle the transactions. I picked up the ticket at a La Caixa "super ATM" which was near my hotel. It was very easy. Be sure to have a look in the Museum in the basement too, as I found it interesting. Happy travels!
