Safety for young adults in Paris

My friend and I are 18 and taking our "Senior Trip" to London, Paris, and Germany. We have figured out accomadations in London and Germany through family friends, however we have no such luck in Paris. We need an area in Paris that is safe to stay but close to all the action and an affordable SAFE place to stay for 4 nights.

Kaitlin,

Check the France or Paris Guidebooks, as they have LOTS of listings of inexpensive, safe Hotels in various parts of Paris.

I like the Rue Cler area (which is popular with many of Rick's readers), and it fits the criteria you listed. It's easy to reach via the Metro (stop: Ecole Militaire), has many restaurants, ATM's, etc.

Happy travels!

Let's Go rates each neighborhood for safety - obviously from the perspective of college students. I actually think it's a little too alarmist - for instance it rates Place de Republique as risky, which I didn't think was shady at all.

I hope you aren't freaked out by that movie "Taken." Paris is very safe. The only sketchy places are the suburbs around Paris, but there are no sights there anyway.

Good point about not being afraid of Paris because of a movie. It would be like never going to a lake cottage because you'd seen "Friday the 13th".

Look into the Paris Walks website.

They'd bed a great way to get out and feel comfortable with other people.

I suggest that you stay in one of the three MIJE hostels in the Marais. They are renovated 17th-century private mansions. Many school groups use them. You can walk to several of the major tourist attractions and they are well-served by Metro and bus lines.

Hotel Kensington is a good choice otherwise the youth hostel is another good option. always be aware of pick pockets espec. in Paris.

This looks like a really nice place and the price doesn't seem too bad either. I cant vouch for it personally, but it has some decent reviews on Trip Advisor.

The AIJ hostel in Paris is in a very nice and safe area near the Bastille. It is more of a residential area than a tourist area, but you can still walk to the city center - or hop on the nearby metro.

The hostel is very basic - but it is clean, safe, and cheap too. I have stayed at this hostel twice. The first time because I couldn't find any others that had any openings. The second time I chose to stay there because other hostels in Paris don't seem to have great reviews at all.
