Safe to walk from Gare de Lyon?

We're arriving at Gare de Lyon about 4 PM the latter part of February. Is it a safe walk dragging out luggage to our hotel in the Marais district (about 2 miles) or should we take a taxi? THX

Willi, Based on the three factors you mentioned..... > February > 2 miles > hauling luggage I would definitely recommend taking a Taxi Happy travels!

Safe - yes. Good idea - no. You can take the metro line #1 to get you closer to your destination in the Marais. And depending on where your hotel is, you might be able to take the metro to get really close. Or a taxi will take you directly there.

Again, you're unlikely to get robbed or assaulted, but it's a long walk with luggage. Get a cab or Metro line 1.

How are you on crossing wide streets - with traffic lights - with the luggage. That's probably the least safe bit. Or perhaps if it is raining, the possibility of slipping on the narrow pavements (sidewalks).

Safe as far as crime is concerned but too far unless you're traveling very light (i.e. not "dragging"). Metro line #1 (toward "La Defense"), two stops to Bastille or three to St-Paul, will get you closer depending on where your hotel is. But dragging the luggage up and down Metro stairs and paying multiple fares and dealing with rush hour crowding -- not worth it. Take a taxi and let the driver worry about rush hour traffic.

PLEASE, safety is not the issue( unless its traffic safety) .. its a long walk with luggage . I wonder if anyone has actually been to Paris and that particular area could answer otherwise .. I am a middle aged woman who has gone solo, and also gone taken my child alone, and safety is not an issue in most of Paris, we have walked, with luggage between Gare L'Est and Gare du Nord and I think that area just like area around Gare du Lyon in terms of "safety". Willi, the streets suck for lots of luggage, the pavement is not always even, the sidewalks may be crowded in some places where the sidewalks narrow, not all curbs are ramped so you are lugging stuff up and down, but, if you are young and have a small bag, and/ or like walking alot ,then feel free to walk free from "safety" concerns, but for comfort if you can spring for a few euros ( not sure can't be more then 10-15) take a taxi it will be nicer,, plus if its raining ( always a good chance of that)

Safe sure.
Far not at all. You just walk to Bastille and keep on going a few blocks. But you said "dragging out luggage". Now that would be a problem anytime, anywhere. Granted you have to pack more for winter, but if you could get it down to an amount you could handle, you might not have to drag luggage.

I did this in Nov. and dragged my luggage and my grandson dragged his. It was definitely quite a hike, but once we got going it was fine. It was a bit drizzly, but it was his first trip to Paris, so at this point, after being home a few months I doubt he even remembers that we were tired and a bit damp!
(It helped get us in shape for the miles and miles we would walk the rest of the days)

We did it last May, but we have backpack suitcases and the weather was good.

Thanks everyone...with all the variables this time of year, I think we'll take a taxi. And thanks for the cost estimate!!
