Hi , My wife & I will be traveling to Barcelona during Christmas and we are looking for a safe neighborhood to rent an apartment, not too far from the main attractions. Any advice? thanks....Barry
Hi Barry,
I've only been to Barcelona once but we stayed in the Eixample neighborhood and felt safe. It was a quieter, more residential location but within walking distance to many of the sights.
To give you an idea, the specific address of our hotel is C/ Rosselló 191 (zip code 08036) and there was a grocery store across the street. Good luck!
Hi, Barry. The Eixample district will probably suit your needs best if you're looking for a quiet neighborhood in walking distance of all the attractions. Anything in Las Ramblas and probably the Barri Gotic as well would be better if you don't mind being in the middle of the action. I know there's a lot of bad stories floating around about Barcelona, but honestly I never felt unsafe there ... just watch your pockets like you would anywhere and wear a moneybelt.
We spent a few days in Barcelona this spring and stayed in Barre Gothic area. Really enjoyed the old buildings, courtyard and cafes surrounding our hotel. However, it is not an area I would recommend roaming around past 10ish. We had two attempted pickpockets on the subway area. In addition, one night heading back to our hotel, we were followed and approached by a man who did not seem to have good intentions. We ducked into a gelatto shop and let the proprietor know why we were hanging around for a while. The "man" waited just a few feet past the store for over 15 minutes. When we left the store, we chose a different route back to the hotel just to be sure that the "man" was not further up the street in one of the little passages.
