Safe hotel near Munich airport for a young woman traveling alone

Our 21 year old daughter may have to take a train alone to Munich from Dresden and stay at a hotel the night before her flight back to the states. Does anyone have a recommendation for a safe hotel in the area? She will probably get a taxi from the train station to the hotel. A hotel offering a shuttle to the airport would be nice, but safety is more important. She can always get a taxi to the airport as well. She is coming home after 6 months of school and will have large bags with her. The school will transport her to either Dresden or Lobau train station. She has a ticket to fly out of Dresden, but she was told there will probably be a scheduled airline strike and the airline would probably pay for her to catch a train to Munich for her connecting flight. The only hotel my husband is familiar with is the Moevenpick. I see on Travelocity that a room is $336 a night. (I don't think the airline would cover a hotel.) We would gladly pay that if it is the best choice, but I thought someone might have some other suggestions.
Thanks!

We just stayed at Movenpick and paid $88...got it on Hotwire. You can get get airport area hotels on Hotwire for much less than $336.

Thanks for the tip, Mary. However, I checked Hotwire and it brings the price down to $320. I wish I knew your $88 secret. I did notice another possible hotel for under $200. Our hope is that the strike will not affect her flight from Dresden, but it is always good to be prepared.

Hotel Zur Gred is in the town of Freising which is close to the airport. We stayed at the Marriott in Freising, however, others on this forum have stayed at Zur Gred the night before their departure. When will she be travelling? Hotels may be expensive because of the Oktoberfest in Munich.

Hi Beverly, We liked the Best Western Park Hotel in Erding, about 20 min. from Munich airport. The train station in Erding is 2 blocks from the hotel and the nice old town of Erding is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Very nice hotel in what we felt was a very safe location. We took a taxi at 5am to Munich airport for about 20 Euro. The desk staff called for the taxi the night before for us. The woman who was at the desk also noticed my wife was wearing a "boot" due to a broken toe earlier in our triop and she called Lufthansa and arranged for our seats to be changed to make sure we sat near the front of the coach section and that my wife had an aisle seat. There's a Novotel at the Munich airport. They're like a Comfort Inn or other basic hotel in the US or Premier Inn in the UK. For a single you could probably get around 50Euro a night room, sometimes they have great specials. It's right at the airport, so she wouldn't need a shuttle and can easily take the MVV (munich train system) from the Munich Hauptbahnhof (if she's taking the train from Dresden). We stay at Novotels all the time. She'll be perfectly safe there. Look at www.booking.com for other options as well.

The last two times I've flown out of MUC, I've stayed the night before in the town of Freising. There is a regular (every 20 min) bus from the Freising Bahnhof to right outside Terminal 2 at MUC. It takes 21 min and costs 2,50€. Last May, I took a train from Dresden to Hof and changed there to another train to Freising. I spent the night in Freising and flew out from MUC the next morning. In Freising, many of the hotels are a short bus trip from the Bahnhof, or she could take the bus to the airport if she were staying there. As for safety, I don't think there is anywhere in Europe or North American where I would feel safer than in Germany, particularly in a small town like Freising. Zur Gred might be OK, but it has become a captive of booking websites. There is no way, except by telephone, to contact them directly. However, here is a list, in English, of hotels in Freising. Many of them have websites you can look at and email numbers where you can contact them directly. How early is her flight out? If it is late enough, there are many places to stay in downtown Munich, and she can easily get to the airport on the S-Bahn.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. The strike did not affect her flight and she was able to fly out of Dresden as scheduled.

Hotel zur Gred was good. I have also stay the Bayerischer Hof in mid town Freising and preferred it. Taxi to Airport is about $35, which might be worthwhile with a lot of luggage. I made reservations at HRS.com which I find most useful.
