Safe hotel near Frankfurt train station at night?

Hi, Please don't worry about my question about a safe hotel. I have decided to stop earlier in the evening and stay in Fulda instead. Thank you for all the information I've gleaned today by reading messages on this website!

Although I have no idea of the actual crime statistics of the area around the Frankfurt Hbf, lets just say it doesn't look like the most reassuring neighborhood. Lots of Spielotheks, sports wager joints, strip clubs and the like. Frankfurt's Hbf has a Ubahn station, so you could just as easily stay in any other area of the city. I'll wait for Jo from Frankfurt to weigh in with a specific recommendation.

Actually, the Hamburger Hof is an excellent choice. It is a 1 min. walk out of the North exit of the train station. This is perfectly safe and not risky at all. There is a red light district near the train station, but if you don't purposely go looking for it, you will never see it or know it is there. It is a 2 X 3 block area and pretty contained, as it doesn't spill out onto the other streets. The main street that emerges from the middle of the station, is the Kaiser Str. and it used to have quite the reputation. The city has spent the last 10 years renovating many of the classical buildings along here and moving the unsavory businesses out and those of a better class in. Lots of restaurants, cafes, ice cream salons, and bakeries now line the Kaiser str. I would have no qualms at all about walking down this street any time of the day or night. Now, if we can just get Rick to remove the red light area from his walk through Frankfurt that he suggests in his book, I would be happy. Other nice hotels in the area are Hotel Monopol and the Excelsior Hotel located next to the South Exit. Near the Hamburger Hof there is the Pur, Steigenberger Metropolitan, and the Intercity Hotel.
