Safe, budget hostels in: Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome, Brussels and Amster

Hi all, I am 27/female, traveling all by myself for the first time to Europe from US. I need your recommendation for some of the best bets for the female friendly/safe hostels in the cities: Paris: 4 nights Venice: 1 night Florence: 1 night Rome: 2 nights Brussels: 2 nights
Amsterdam: 2 nights Suggestions?

One night in a city means you are not even allowing a full day for a visit.. so I would get rid of a one night stop ... two nights are one full day sightseeing , I think somewhere like Florence is worth a measly one full day don't you? I am thinking you aren't accounting for travel time. Every time you move you are using up ( minimally) one half day of your time moving and not sightseeing. Think about it. You are over crowding your itinerary. For Paris a girl at my work stayed at the St Christophers Hostel and said it was fine( clean and modern) , she was only 18 at the time and on her own, but she does have a bit of travel under her belt is was a very confident youngster. It is in a safe area of course, but you will have to learn and use metro to get to most sites from there. If you can get into the MIJE hostels you might like them better, just location wise as you can walk to more things,, met a 25 yr old girl from Australia who was staying there and she liked it very much. There are three of them all pretty much in same area. Just google MIJE.

Thanks, Pat for your wonderful suggestions. I will mostly be taking air between the countries and trains between the cities in Italy. As for the trip, this is my itinerary#2 (I still have 3 months left til I leave, therefore keeping a lot of time in hand to schedule/reschedule everything). Paris: 4 nights Venice: 1 night Rome: 2 nights
Amsterdam: 3 nights As for the hostels in Paris; it's hard to find any public transportation between the airport (CDG) and the hostels - using google maps. Is there other ways to check the public transportation schedule from the airport? Any suggestions would be much appeciated.

All of Paris is easily accessible from Charles de Gaulle, but I think you are misunderstanding it,, you simply take the RER train ( 9.50 euros) to Chatelet then you have to transfer to a metro line to get you closest to hostel you are choosing,, for the MIJE hostels ( depending on which you stay in ) that means transferring to line 1 or 7 to either Pont Marie or St Pauls... you do this all on the one ticket you get from the airport. For St Christophers near the Canal you would take line 5 and get off at Laumiere.
I just noticed St Christophers has just opened a new hostel near Gare du Nord, that's a convenient area,, but frankly I find it a bit,,er,,, gritty, wouldn't be my first choice.

What great suggestions, all! This website is definitely a great source of all the information that a noob needs! Pat, after looking at some the suggestions in the board, most likely, I am going to reschedule my itinerary. I might skip Brussels all together and will do either Venice or Florence. However that will not stop me from getting the hostel recommendations for those cities, though - just in case ;-) Can anyone recommend any "Christian hostels" for Paris - just in case? Also, feel free to chime in for hostel suggestions from the cities listed below- Venice Florence Rome Brussels
Amsterdam

I suggest you google "Christian hostels" in wherever,, I just did that for Amsterdam and a place came up called "The Shelter City Hostel" in Amsterdam.. which says it is a Christian hostel ( no booze allowed inside and no mixed gender rooms etc). The reviews look decent.
I would google for each city, then google with the word "reviews" then read the reviews.. mostly they are on tripadvisor.com but there are others. Look at photos taken by other travelers that are posted on the tripadvisor.com reviews as the photos posted on the websites are of course always fancied up ( you know they show the biggest nicest room etc , or photo is like 10 years old etc) but the travellers photos are more accurate.

There's a website just made to answer your question about inexpensive accomodations in European cities - http://www.eurocheapo.com/.Scroll down on the page to see the list of cities they cover. In addition to hotel and hostel listings, they have very good descriptions of different neighborhoods and suggested sight-seeing.

Hi, For Paris between the 9th and 10th arrond. is Vintage Hostel on Rue de Dunkerque...a good nice hostel. Very easy to access from CDG. Take the RER B to Gare du Nord, when exiting the Gare, turn right on to Rue de Dunkerque, ca. 10-15 min. walk.

I stayed at Shelter City in Amsterdam. It is very nice and quite convenient. You will feel absolutely safe I guarantee, and it is an all female dormitory! The breakfast is amazing as well!
