Safe area to stay in Barcelona

Last May, my wife and I found Blanc Guesthouse very nice, reasonably priced, easy to get to/from, etc. Not sure it's in a student's budget but you might check. One word of advice. Watch your wallet/purse/whatever! Do NOT ask me why I advise you of that!

Thanks for the recommendation unfortunately that is booked. Of course now I am even more nervous about her traveling there. Will make sure she is extra careful and travels in a group. Or better yet. Maybe they choose another destination. Thanks again

The H10 Catalunya Plaza would be ideal. It is right on the square, which is a busy public place, very safe. This is the "center" of Barcelona and the dividing line between the Eixemple, with upscale neighborhoods, and the older districts to the south. It is also the top end of Las Ramblas whichthey will want to see. This hotel has triple rooms and quads (you don't say how many a'a few friends" are) and their weekend rates are very good. It is VERY easy to get there form the airpport on the comfortable Aerobus. As for safety, Barcelona has a reputation for pickpockets but that is not a personal safety issue. I also don't think it is any worse there than Paris, Rome, or other big cities. Tell her not to set her iphone down on a cafe table unattended, and to keep her purse zipped and close to her body. They can stay in a group and stay on brightly lit (and packed) streets in the Eixemple at night. It goes without saying they won't accept drinks from strangers or any of that.

OK, I just checked the H10 Catalunya, and their prices for June are much higher than later (like July), even on weekends. they may have left it until too late to get good hotel prices. but I would still suggest they look right in that area (Placa Catalunya) for safety and convenience, as well as close to the sights.
