Saalburg visit...any taxis waiting there?

I'll be staying in Freidrichdorf and I'm going to squeeze in a visit to this Roman fort and I'm pretty sure I can get a taxi to it.....but can I get back the same way, is there a taxi stand there, has anyone noticed or tried calling a taxi for a pickup there? I know about the bus out of Bad Homburg but that's out of the question as I have limited time to wait around and a 3 hour window with which to work with...thanks in advance for any insight.

There aren't usually taxis waiting there at the Saalburg, but you can perhaps make arrangements with the taxi driver to come pick you up at a certain time after they drop you off going out there. If they have a sure fare, they will probably do it.

Thanks Jo, that's one of the things I was thinking about, hoping for in fact but I don't know if the taxi companies allow that there.....here at home a lot of companies don't allow that, it won't stop me from trying it out there...had a feeling you might have an answer for me Jo, seen you on here for a long time now, lots of good info from ya....thanks....oh btw, ever been to Trader Vics in Munich? Wondering how authentic is is, I have to see for myself either way :)

Sounds like my last resort fall back option would unfortunately be making my wife really happy and taking her to the casino in Bad Homburg, instead of an interesting Roman site or a neat open air museum with lots of interesting things...maybe I'll just drop her off at the casino and go forth on my own! Win Win! Thanks again Tom

If you do go to the Saalburg, quite a bit is indoors, so I wouldn't let a bit of rain chase you away. I do like Hessen Park Open Air Museum, but it is quite difficult to get to with public transportation, though once you get off the train, there should be a taxi or two waiting. Alternative site in Bad Homburg is the summer palace of Wilhelm 2. You have to go on a tour to see inside, but it is worth it. The estate surrounding the palace is pretty and they have a great, little orangerie. Next to the palace grounds is the Erlöscher (Redeemer) church. This is an absolutely stunning church that Wilhelm had built, with the interior done in Byzantine style. The Kur park is beautiful, with the Siam temple and the Russian Orthodox church.

I was just there today (didn't go in, though, because it started to rain), and I can confirm... no taxis waiting. There is a bus stop, though. If you have more time, nearby Hessenpark is worth a visit too, especially on a weekend when they hold a market.

Hi Tom and thanks for that....I read somewhere that when it rains there, the area gets pretty muddy , so maybe I'll give Hessenpark a look instead....Ciao

Well, for the most part, that would just as muddy.
