Has anyone traveled the area south of Cordoba by car? My sister and I want to see as much of that area, and do a short to Tangiers. But it looks like it might be difficult by train.
We drove south of Cordoba in April 2010. Roads are great with good signage. We drove to Tarifa and ferryed over to Tangier. We drove all over the south: Granada - Ronda - Malaga - Gibraltar - Sevilla, etc. Our GPS was handy in the cities but not necessary.
I drive around southern Spain quite a bit and there's nothing to it. There's two things that will give you fits: 1 - - Getting into Seville. Just get in and park and be done with it, don't even think about trying to drive around - - but the historic/tourist area is small and easily walkable. 2 - - Freeway construction. The east-west freeways are in the midst of reconstrucion/addition which has been going on for seven evers. Don't rely on a gps or a map if something seems out of wack. Know the next town/city along the route and follow the signs. Simple as heck.
Bob, Ed, thanks for the hints. My wife and I will be there at the end of May and plan on doing all of our touring in a rental car.
