Rothenburg has a perimeter walk outside parts of the wall that would not be bad.

Plus, we stayed outside the wall at Rothenburg near Henkersturm and cross a trail going to our bed and breakfast in the adjoining community.

If you go as far south as Füssen, there is a path out to the royal castles that is quite scenic.

In general the Germans are walkers and usually provide some place in the area to get out and stretch your legs. I used to travel as a runner in Germany and never had trouble finding some place to run.

Jimmie- Swiss villages are criss-crossed with trails.

In Switzerland I have also noticed that most of the major rail lines have walking paths located along side the tracks. The locals seem to use them for riding their bikes and walking their dogs, but should be okay for jogging as well.
