Will be going to Ruhpolding Sep, 09 and wondering if anyone has ever been there, if so, hotel, B&B, restaurants, sights in & around village.

never been there, but the map shows you as being super close to Berchtesgaden/Eagle's Nest. Lots of great day trips to Austrian sites are possible if Ruhpolding is to be your home base.

Ruhpolding is just around the corner from Reit im Winkl and Inzell - some of the prettiest parts of the Alps are in this neighborhood. Reit has an easy to climb mountain (Fellhorn) that provides you a 360 degree view of the Wilde Kaiser massiv and much of Eastern Tirol and the German Corner near Berchtesgaden. You will be close to the Jennerbahn with which you reach the overlook at the Königssee (and reputedly a much better viewpoint than the Eagle's Nest to the south). Salt mine tour, Salzburg, and summer toboggan runs are just some of the other attractions.
