Rue Montorgueil- Paris

My fiance and I are renting an apartment just off of Rue Montorgueil, on Rue Marie Stuart for 5 days in June.
I'm just curious to hear experiences from others who have stayed in this area. Also, any recommendations for restaurants, etc in the area. Thanks!

This is a very nice, well-located area. Lots of restaurants on the rue Montorgueil. I ate at a couple that I can't remember the name of now, one was an Italian place -- but I think any of them will be good.
Just stroll the street.

Ack! Not the Italian place with the karoke machine! Skip that one.

We stayed on this street for a week and loved it. We never met any other Americans there the whole time. There are so many well priced restaurants in this area. We just picked busy ones, crowded with happy Parisians. I remember liking an Indian restaurant, but all were very inexpensive and good. It was a wonderful neighborhood to just read the dinner specials and walk into the restaurants.

Also, the neighborhood seemed to be very safe and lively at night, with large crowds of people out on the streets into the wee morning hours. We have stayed on the rue Cler, also, among several other locations in Paris, and loved this the most. The neighborhood is not touristy and is well located for visiting the many sights of Paris. Don't miss a baba rum pastry at the Stohrer Patisserie on 51 rue Montorgueil, an institution since 1730.

Thanks for the replies so far! There is not a lot of information on this neighborhood online, so I am happy to hear that the area is what we were hoping for.
Terry, that is quite amazing to me that they have been in business since 1730, I will certainly check them out!

I first saw the Stoher bakery featured on an episode of Rachael Ray's $40 A Day visit in Paris years ago!

I caught a really old episode of $40 a Day a few months ago- it was great how far $40 would go in France back then...

Jamie, I lived on $20 a day back in 1975 when I lived in Paris! That covered hotel (Hotel Marignan in the 5th which is still there and still recommended by some on the Helpline), food, sights and transportation. It amazes me! On my last trip to Paris this past August, I spent time in cafes and shopping on rue Montorgueil and thought it was a great area.
