Rue Cler to Notre Dame

Any suggestions on how to get from the Rue Cler area, where we will be staying, to Notre Dame? I have been looking for bus lines and Metro lines that connect without much walking, but have not had any luck. I am trying to make this work with a bad knee and the least amount of walking possible. Is a taxi my only option?

There's not much walking to take the Metro. The stop is right at the head of Rue Cler. But if knees are a problem, take a cab. It's a short distance and the fare won't be too bad.

Debbie, if you have a bum knee, I would concentrate on figuring out buses. Metros often have lots of stairs, and long coridors, and more stairs.

I would take a bus or taxi if it was me and I had a bum knee.

Just this past weekend we took Rick's Bus 69 tour, simply getting off at the nearest stop to Notre Dame. We then walked back, taking a particular route to hit some shops we wanted to see on the way, but I'm guessing you could hop on the bus where you got off and ride back to the Rue Cler area.

It helps to have a printed bus guide and a map. I took the #87 bus from Ecole Militaire; it travels along areas on the Left Bank and has a stop just a few blocks from ND.

The ride on #69 is more picturesque when taken westward from the Marais toward rue Cler than when taken from rue Cler eastward. The routes are somewhat different because of one-way streets.

The #80 from the Ecole Militaire intersection will take you north thru the high-rent district, to Gare St Lazare, and on to Montmartre. It's a long but interesting ride.
