Rue Cler Hotel

Hey Guys, Short notice here, but we are leaving next week for Paris and London on a last minute short trip. We want to stay on Rue Cler and I was wondering if anyone has stayed at Hotel de la Motte Picquet lately? It's from my 2009 Rick book and I wanted to make sure it was good. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You probably have already looked, but you should check out TripAdvisor. The reviews are usually pretty accurate.

Last year I stayed at Hotel Amelie, which is a couple of blocks from rue Cler, and not very costly. Last minute you may not have many inexpensive choices in that area. Amelie is fairly plain with no elevator. The breakfast area is cozy; but there are other places nearby for breakfast. A Laundromat is nearby and rue St Dominique is at the corner of rue Amelie. Bus #69 runs there with a Metro stop 2 or 3 blocks away.

It's rated #96 on TA, that's good. You might also check out Hotel Muguet, same neighborhood, rated #57 on TA.

Jeremy, I agree with the others. Have a look at Trip Advisor as that should provide a good indication on what experiences travellers are currently having at that hotel. I haven't checked, but I suspect it's still in the Guidebook so will be a reliable property. If you have any concerns, you could also have a look at Hotel du Cadran, Hotel Muguet or Hotel Duquesne Eiffel, all in the Rue Cler area. Happy travels!

Jeremy at this point I would be contacting hotels and seeing who even has vacancies.. these hotels are small and do fill out, any hotel in RS books is going to likely be full unless you are lucky. There are thousands of hotels in Paris, good clean budget hotels, do not limit yourselves to one on Rue Cler, that just makes things more difficult ,, there are many markets all over Paris, cute streets etc.. Just cause RS suggests one street you really should not get too caught up in the hype. As suggested start with tripadvisor.com for a hotel.. you may have to contact a few to find a vacancy , as far as I am concerned most in top 150 are fine.. Be aware that French hotel rooms are likely smaller then you are used to,, and that the star system in France is not the same as in America.
A good two or three star can be absolutely fine.

I reiterate Pat's advice, which is to not limit your hotel search to rue Cler. It is not one of the most interesting streets in Paris, in spite of what you read on this board, and it is inconveniently located. The fact that it is a short walk to the Eiffel Tower is irrelevant. You can easily get to the Eiffel Tower from anywhere in Paris in very little time and how often do you want to walk to it anyway. Once? Twice? You can get to it on Bus 42 or 69, both excellent buses for sightseeing, by the way.

My daughter and I stayed in 2010 in the Hotel du champ demars, and enjoyed the hotel, the owners and the area very much. Hotel also has an elevator. Loved the crepes at Ulysses and only a 10 minute walk to the eiffel tower. Also, there is an Italian restaurant in this neighborhood called La Taverna - 22 rue de Champ de Mars thagt was excellent. Have a great time! http://www.hotelduchampdemars.com/ http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.lataverna.fr/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dla%2Btaverna%2Bparis%26biw%3D1152%26bih%3D370

Good advice above, but above all, you need to get off your duff and book your hotel NOW. Anything that's decent will have been booked up months ago (for the best places, many months). On such short notice, you are not going to be able to be very picky. With each passing hour, your options become worse. Get going.

I just looked in laterooms.com. In the 7th, there are numerous listings at a range of rates. Good luck!
