I will be staying in an apartment on Rue Cardinal Lemoine in May. I'm trying to determine if there are any safety issues when walking in this area at night.
Also, I'm searching for banks/ATM and taxis in this general area. All comments appreciated!
It's a very safe street and area.
Hi, I stayed in a small hotel (2 star) on that street once ages ago just down from the Metro station Cardinal Lemoine. That hotel doesn't exist anymore, replaced by a commercial store. Rue Cardinal Lemoine is within walking distance to the university area if I remember correctly. Rue Cardinal Lemoine is all right as is Rue Descartes, where you'll see one restaurant after another.
I stayed there too in a family friend's place. Great location and seemed very peaceful at night except for a club at the end of our block. But it felt safe enough. We were two blocks from the Seine and that first walk up there, turning the corner and seeing Notre Dame, was breathtaking.
On Google Earth I see an HSBC bank, with ATM, and a taxi stand at the corner of rues Cardinal Lemoine and Monge, where the Metro stop is. There are numerous other banks in the area. We've stayed on Cardinal Lemoine, it's a safe area night and day. As in any part of any big city, be aware of your surroundings walking at night. If you download Google Earth and use the "street view" feature you can eyeball the whole neighborhood, including your apartment building.
Thanks for the information!
I stayed very near in an apartment, alone, and was fine walking in the area, taking the metro as late as midnight. You'll be fine!
Yes it's fine, very safe.
