We are staying at the Royal Regency in Vicennes, Paris. We would have preferred to stay closer to the center of Paris, but couldn't afford to pass up the price of $150 for the week as a time-share exchange. Has anyone ever stayed there? We hear the neighborhood is very nice, but we know the Metro will be our best friend to Paris center. All comments welcome.
any comments?
I can't comment on your place [although it looks like you're next-door to a large wine store...can't be all bad ;-)], but I have spent time in the area - it was nice all of the places I went. And not touristy - a pleasant break! The photos on TripAdvisor look great - so much space! And the reviews are all encouraging.
You aren't particularly close to a metro stop - 2 are several blocks away. For $150/week (really?!? Wow!) I could walk a few blocks!
You must spend some time (all day isn't out of the question) at Bois de Vincennes! It's sooooo peaceful (save it for a 'quiet' day after a crazy city day). Take a picnic, a novel, and just enjoy strolling &/or sitting on a park bench. Rent a boat. And I recommend visiting Chateau de Vincennes, esp. if you know your history (and if not, you'll know some after a little Googling).
We always stay at the western edge of the park; it doesn't take all day to get anywhere on the metro.
Gary, if you take the metro up to the Cours de Vincennes at Place de la Nation, there is a wonderful street market on Saturday mornings.
Mary & Norma, thanks so much for all your good info.
We stayed at the royal Regency in Vicennes 5 years ago. We left after the 1st night (it was a free week as a gift a for our aniversary). there was no air conditioning and it was very hot with poor circulation, weeds out front, neighborhood ok , not charming. We conplained , it could be better now. We found a 2 star hotel in the Latin quarter in RS book with air conditioning. We were thrilled we decided to stay in Paris and could walk everywhere right out our door. It was worth the extra money. It is about a 20 min metro ride just to edge of Paris from Vicennes.
